My interests are in the philosophy of science (especially physics and chemistry), metaphysics of science, and philosophy of mind, including philosophy of psychiatry, psychology and psychotherapy. I am also interested in philosophical practice, a contemporary movement which tries to make philosophy relevant to the life of the modern individual. Before joining the philosophy department at York, I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where I am currently an associate member. I have done work on reductionism and emergence in science, on microstructuralism and natural kinds, on scientism, and on the autonomy of chemistry.
