CURRENT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT April 1997 - present R&D contract with I-Image Medical Technologies Inc., Montreal. RESEARCH IN COMPUTATIONAL ATOMIC PHYSICS atomic and molecular collisions molecular, atomic and nuclear structures effects of atomic phenomena on tokamak plasmas modelling and simulation techniques numerical analysis Computational Atomic Physics, with fous on Positron Impact Phenomena CURRENT RESEARCH Since 1982 - Positron and Electron Impact Ionization of Atoms, Molecules and Ions. Developed distorted-wave models, which proved to work well for a wide range of impact energies. Supervision of graduate students in the York University Graduate Program in Physics and Astronomy. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY STUDIES I am one of the many who believe in the need to share current scientific research with an interested public. The analysis and interpretation of recent scientific developments can be a most exciting and rewarding intellectual activity. My current areas of interest are: COSMOLOGY AND QUANTUM PHYSICS. I contend that the 20th century discoveries in Physics and Cosmology gave us answers to some of our deepest questions about the Universe. Partial theories explain the nature of matter and the large scale behavior of the Universe and we might be close to producing a "theory of everything". QUANTUM COMPUTING. Two current research and development areas fuel this 15 year old field: 1) chip technologists creating transistors of smaller and smaller sizes and 2) atomic physicists manipulating individual atoms with an increasing level of sophistication. The ultimate goal of each is a computer with transistors of atomic size, which will manipulate qubits to produce quantum-type calculations. My research interests are in the area of theoretical Quantum Computing, i.e. the creation of algorithms to solve practical problems on a quantum computer.
