John Lennox was Acting Dean and then Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies from July 1, 1999 to June 30, 2005, and held the post of Associate Vice-President Graduate from May 2004 to June 2005. He was Academic Convenor of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences that was held at York University May 27-June 3, 2006.

He is co-author, with Clara Thomas, of William Arthur Deacon: A Canadian Literary Life (1982) and co-editor, with Michele Lacombe, of Dear Bill: The Correspondence of William Arthur Deacon (1988). He is editor of Margaret Laurence-Al Purdy: A Friendship in Letters (1993) and co-editor, with Janet Paterson, of Challenges, Projects, Texts: Canadian Editing/Défis, projets et textes dans l'edition critique au Canada (1993). He and Ruth Panofsky are co-editors of Selected Letters of Margaret Laurence and Adele Wiseman (1997). In 2000, John Lennox was the recipient of the Governor-General’s International Award for Canadian Studies.

John Lennox has published two recent articles: “Using the Archives” in The Power and Passion of Archives: A Festschrift in Honour of Kent Haworth (2005) ed. Marion Beyea et al., Association of Canadian Archivists; and, "Letters and the Editor" in Canada: Society and the Individual/Societe et individu, ed. Regina Kvasyte, Siauliai University, Lithuania (2006).

His research interests in Canadian Literature include life-writing; editions of correspondence; fiction; and literary history. Prof. Lennox received the honorific title of University Professor at the 2008 June Convocation ceremony.
